Note to myself, when visiting Indonesia again, pay a visit to Lian’s Record Store at Jalan Surabaya No. 63 in Central Jakarta. I love visiting authentic record shops when traveling, but I find it hard to find the really good ones without proper investigation before depart.
That’s where The Vinyl Factory comes into play. In it’s series The World’s Best Record Shops you get a great overview of record shops around the world worth visiting.
Lian, owner of Lian’s Record Store, has seen Jakarta change over the years, witnessing vinyl come, go and come back once more. Learning from his father, who first opened a record shop in 1963, Lian now spends his days sitting out the front of his roadside establishment, surrounded by vinyl, cassettes and CDs. Behind him you’ll find American blues, folk, psychedelia and rock, but it’s their selection of Indonesian gems that will get most diggers excited.
